Can I Watch TV From My Computer? Yes, You Can

Watch TV From My Computer

Have you ever thought to yourself "It sure would be nice to watch TV from my computer" Well, it's not the province of the super rich or ultra nerds anymore. In fact watching TV on your computer is becoming more main stream all the time. Some, including software giant Microsoft feel it is the wave of the future. They've actually staked part of their future on it. Their new Vista operating system has features designed specifically to enable this sort of functionality.

That's great, but where do you get the content? I mean, you just can't have thousands of channels pumped into your computer straight from the Internet, can you? Well, actually you can. There are really a few ways to get TV on your computer. You can buy a TV tuner card. This basically turns your computer into a high tech VCR or personal video recorder (PVR - think TiVO) device. That's pretty darn cool, but there are a couple of downsides to the approach. First of all, as was pointed out earlier, there is a content question. Where do you get it?

Can I Watch TV From My Computer? Yes, You Can

With the TV tuner card method, you're limited to what is available with a terrestrial antenna, or you can hook up basic cable TV service. Anything beyond basic cable won't work using this method, because the content is encrypted by your cable provider. You need their proprietary cable box to decode the really cool channels, or pay per view events. So, while this method of watching TV on your computer is pretty neat, there are definitely limitations with it.

You can use a pay per download service of watching movies on your computer, such as Cinemanow.com or Movielink.com. While they do offer a large amount of downloadable content, it's definitely not live TV. If you're looking for real live TV, you'll have to look elsewhere.

Another method is IPTV. TV content streamed straight over the internet to your computer or set top tuner box. There are two flavors of this. One is through a major service provider such as a cable, satellite or phone company. These are definitely capable of delivering a large amount of high quality content, but just because it's streamed over the Internet doesn't mean you'll just be pluggn' in the net straight to your PC and watching reruns of Sienfeld. You are basically duplicating the cable set top box approach, except the method of content delivery is using IP packets instead of analog or other types of digital cable.

There's still another choice. You can watch streaming live TV directly on your computer or to a TV hooked up to your computer. Using one of several software based solutions, you can watch live TV shows such as sports, prime time network programming, reality TV, and moves. It's live, and even better there are thousands of channels available from all over the world. If you are looking to keep up on world events, or want a different perspective on the news, this is a fantastic resource.

The software streaming solutions really excel for sports, though. You'll find sporting events that are sparsely covered in the U.S., such as soccer, motorcycle and bicycle racing. Another bonus is that you can get coverage of the same event form different networks. Want to see if the local announcers are a bit biased? You can do it. No matter the sport, if it's on TV anywhere in the world, you'll be able to watch it.

So, there are great ways to watch live TV on your computer. You just need to decide how you are going to do it, and grab a cold one!

TV Tuner For Laptop Computer - How to Watch Satellite TV on Your Laptop?

Have you ever wanted to catch your latest shows right on your laptop? The truth of the matter is that more and more people are looking into installing a TV tuner onto their laptops and enjoying all their favorite programming as it gets downloaded onto their machine. If you want to reduce the amount of hardware that you have around the house or apartment, you'll find that you can turn your laptop into an excellent home entertainment system, so if you feel that this technological innovation is something that you would enjoy, there is some information that you should be aware of. Choosing the right TV tuners for laptop computers can make all the difference.

The first thing that you need to know is that your computer is capable of operating just like a television, as long as it has some equipment that will allow it to do so. Find out if your computer has a TV tuner in it. In many new models, this is something that you can find, but if you have a slightly older or more stripped down model, you will need to go find yourself an external TV tuner. An external tuner will connect to your computer using a USB cord it will use an adapter plug to hook your laptop up to the cable outlet in your apartment. See what the right TV tuner for notebook computer will do for you.

If you are going to go hunting for an external TV tuner adapter, which is also known as TV tuner card, you will find that you can find them easily at any basic electronics store. When you have a selection in front of them, make sure that you are looking for the number of channels that it will support as well as the frame rate that it will support. You will also find that you are going to need to make sure that it will sync up with the sound card that it provides, and finally, always make sure that the adaptor will fit what you have at home. This is all fairly basic, but don't decline the help of the store employees if you want clarification on a few things. Finding the right TV tuners for laptop computers is something that you need to make sure that you get right the first time.

When you are looking to turn your laptop into a place where you can watch TV, you'll find that for the most part, you are going to want a PCMCIA based TV tuner. These tuners are much more portable than those meant for desktop PCs, but you'll also find that they tend to have fewer outlets and fewer features. A USB-based TV tuner is actually quite easy to use and easy to install, but keep in mind that if you have an older computer that it might not be able to process the heavy data flow.

Remember that finding the right TV tuner for notebook computer use is something that you are going to need to consider. This means that you can enjoy hours of entertainment, all without logging out or missing your AIM Chat, simply by finding the right TV tuners for laptop computers.

How To Become a Computer Technician

So you want to be a Computer Technician, but you don't know how? Well guess what, I am going to tell you how.

First things first, I am blunt and to the point. I hate typing and thinking about grammar, that is why I went into the Technology field.

I have over 10 years experience in web design, computer networking, hardware, software, java programming, Apple & IBM (pc) format computers, telephone work, home theatres etc, etc, etc, & I make a lot of money doing. So basically I know what I am talking about & I am going to give you some advice that took me 10 long, hard years to learn.

How To Become a Computer Technician

1. MOST IMPORTANT: LEARN how to find the right answers. This can be true for ANY field, ANY person works in. You do not need to know everything, and guess what, if you spent the next 10 years reading, going to school & obtaining certifications, you still wouldn't know all there is to know in the field of Technology. But if you can figure out what resources will help you find a solution for you the fastest, then you are on your way.

2. Go to school and/or get certifications. Of course you need to learn about computers, software, hardware etc to become a computer technician. Find something that fits you, something that makes you excited to go. 4 year schools are not for every one, so make sure they are right for you if you choose to go. In my 4 years in college the only thing I learned to do is program at Level II in Java (a blind monkey could program at that level) and drink a lot of beer. 2 year schools are good because the get straight to the point about the actual jobs you will be doing out in the REAL world. (I was offered a teaching position at one of these 2 year schools at the ripe old age of 25, I laughed in their face & said no because of the salary they were offering). Certifications are important regardless if you get a 2 or 4 year degree. They tell other people that have NO CLUE about technology that you, indeed have a clue about technology

Did you follow that?

A couple of certifications that I highly recommend are the A+, Networking + and any Microsoft Support Certification.

3. Be patient, with yourself and the people you work with. You will always be learning if you become a computer technician. The average lifespan for a particular model of technology (ie computers) is about 2 years. Meaning as soon as you buy it, it is OLD. Things change everyday in Technology and you have to keep up with it!

4. Have a Positive Attitude! Remember, when people call you or you are dispatched out to work on someone's computer, TV etc, they usually are frustrated. Most people will try to fix the issue themselves before calling anyone because they are cheap. By the time you or I get there they are ready to cry. A positive and friendly attitude will go an EXTREMELY LONG WAY. You will be their savior and they will tell all their friends about you. This point might be the most difficult, especially in Technology because not very many people understand how it works and because our lives are so dependent on it.

That is it, 4 simple steps.

Can you handle it?

These are the 4 things I have tried to do over the last 10 years. Trust me, I am no genius, not by a long shot. But I figured out how to find the right answer for the problem, combined with an education, some certifications and the right attitude, I have people knocking down my door for my services.

Read this article a couple of times until this info really sinks in. This advice works so use it!

Stop sitting there and get busy!

For more information on How To Become a Computer Technician, check out a couple of this sites I have listed in my bio, those will help.

Good Luck!

Remove Viruses From My Computer For Free

After recently testing a couple of virus removal tools which had claimed to have been able to remove viruses from my computer for free I found that most of them were fake. There are masses of spyware and virus removal applications available on the internet but most of them that are "free" will not offer you the same quality and service as paid versions and that is a fact. Virus infections can have disastrous effects on your computer system and if you care about the health, stability and performances of it then you should get yourself a quality virus removal tool which will cure your problems. In any case most free versions of these programs are actually infections themselves and will corrupt your system when you use them.

Viruses have been around for ages and will always be around given the advances in technology and the knowledge of hackers today. Don't think that you won't get an infection if you don't surf the internet as there are many other ways in which virus infections can work their way onto your system. Although internet downloads are the most common you can also receive infections via software exchanges between systems via USB or hard drives which contain infections. The bottom line is that when they get onto your system they perform damage quickly and this is why you need to use these pc security tools in order to stop it before it's too late.

Spyware And Viruses

Signs that indicate an infection are significant speed reduction, browser crashes, error screens, deleted program files, freezing, advertisements and system reboots. There are many others and even if you don't experience these you should still run a virus scan and you will be shocked at how many infections there will be on your computer.
